James Haigh Appointed Chair of African Travel & Tourism Association

The African Travel & Tourism Association (ATTA®) has announced the appointment of James Haigh as its new Chairperson. With over 25 years of experience in the tourism industry, Haigh brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role. His extensive travels across Africa have deepened his understanding of the continent's diverse cultures, customs, and languages. Throughout his career, Haigh has built strong relationships with various stakeholders, including tour operators, guides, lodges, and camps. His keen attention to detail and ability to swiftly address potential challenges have been instrumental in ensuring smooth operations and successful outcomes. Haigh's proficiency extends to presenting to diverse audiences, managing agent sales, and fostering lasting relationships within the industry.
In his new position as Chair, Haigh is committed to strengthening ATTA®'s dedication to fostering meaningful, long-term relationships with members and stakeholders. He aims to leverage his extensive experience to further the association's mission of promoting tourism to Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.
ATTA® serves as a member-driven trade association, representing over 746 members across 31 African and Indian Ocean countries. The organization acts as the voice of African and Indian Ocean Islands tourism, supporting businesses ranging from accommodation providers and transport companies to travel specialists. ATTA® also includes a formidable selection of tour operators, representation, and PR companies worldwide, all dedicated to promoting tourism to Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.
Haigh's appointment follows the tenure of Nick Aslin, founder of Zambian Ground Handlers, who served as ATTA® Chair from October 2022 to September 2024. Aslin has been a prominent figure in Zambia's safari tourism sector since the mid-1990s and has significantly contributed to conservation efforts in the region.
Under Haigh's leadership, ATTA® is poised to continue its advocacy for sustainable tourism practices and the promotion of Africa as a premier travel destination.
